Calvary is a place to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
Calvary’s music ministry is a wonderful celebration of God! Led by a talented music staff of Ray Hunsicker, Director of Music; Drucilla Schutte, Associate Director of Music; Kendra Werner, Assistant Organist/Handbell Choir Director; and Roy Verna, Contemporary Worship Director, our program offers many opportunities for participation. From traditional hymns that provide comfort and peace to rousing contemporary Christian songs, there is something for every musical taste at Calvary.
We welcome and encourage you to join one of our choirs. No experience necessary – just lots of enthusiasm and a desire to sing praises to our Lord!
Chancel Choir
(High school graduates and adults)
Our Chancel Choir sings at the 9 am Sunday worship service with wonderful traditional hymns and songs. Members also perform in a yearly Christmas concert accompanied by an ensemble orchestra that packs Calvary to the brim with attendees! Chancel Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 pm.
Contemporary Worship Praise Team
(Middle school students to adults)
From the music of Steven Curtis Chapman to the Doobie Brothers, Calvary’s Praise Band rocks the house! Praise Team leads the contemporary worship at the 10:30 am service each week. The Team, comprised of vocalists, instrumentalists and sound assistants, rehearses every Thursday evening from 7:15 - 8:30 pm.
Brass Choir
Calvary’s Brass Choir performs for Festival Sundays and special music presentations. Rehearsals are on an as-needed basis.
Ensembles/Soloists
Provide music for 8:00 am service, as well as summer worship and special services.
Children’s Choirs
Youth Choir
(Grades 6 – 12)
Kids in middle school through high school sing at Sunday worship services and also perform with the Chancel Choir on Christmas Eve. The Youth choir rehearses Wednesdays from 6:00 - 6:30 pm.
Junior Choir
(Grades 3-5; also 2nd graders beginning in the Spring)
Elementary school children rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 pm and perform at special events throughout the year. Junior Choir participants learn Lutheran liturgy, ring handchimes, perform Christian musicals and sing monthly at service.
Cherub Choir
(Grades 1-2 in Fall; also K-1st beginning in the Spring)
Our littlest angels in the Cherub Choir rehearse on Wednesdays from 5 – 5:30 pm, and perform at special events throughout the year. The focus is on teaching church music through Christian songs and musical games.
Handbell Choirs
If you have never experienced a performance by a handbell choir, you have missed out on a very special thing. Calvary’s handbell choirs fill the church with magical sounds throughout the Church year.
Adult Handbell Choir
Rings at regular and Festival services, Christmas Eve and Easter, and rehearses Sunday mornings from 10:15 - 11:30 am.
Youth Handbell Choir
(Grades 6-12)
With both Beginner and Intermediate groups, the Youth Handbell Choir rings periodically at Sunday worship as well as Christmas Eve and Palm Sunday service. The group rehearses Wednesdays at 6:30 - 7:15 pm.
